Red - figure Painted Ceramics - Isar Marvinci (excavations 2009)

Red - figure painted pelike:

On the front side, there is a representation of a combat between an Amazonian woman and a griffon. The Amazonian woman is mounted on a horse, with a spear in the right hand. The griffon is represented with raised front legs and it is painted in white. On the reverse side, there are two figures in himatia standing in front of an altar (stela). They perform a ritual- purification of the shield. It is dated to the middle of the 4th century BC.

On the front side, there is a representation of a combat between an Amazonian woman and a griffon. The Amazonian woman holds a sword in her right hand and a shield in the left one. The griffon is represented with raised front legs and it is painted in white. On the reverse side, there are two figures in himatia standing in front of an altar (stela). They perform a ritual-purification of the shield. It is dated to the middle of the 4th century BC.

A single scene is depicted on the jar. Centrally, there is a female figure that holds a chest in each hand. On both sides of the female figure, and facing her, there are two winged female figures (Nike), holding gifts in their hands. This representation is linked with the myth of Pandora and her chest. It is dated to the middle of the 4th century BC.
