Plaoshnik - Ohrid

Spatial position: at the southern part of the western hill of Ohrid, between Samuil’s fortress / citadel and the position of the church of St. John the Theologian Kaneo.

Chronological framework: from the 12th century BC to the first half of the 20th century AD. Dominant chronological periods: Early and Late Iron Age – settlement, pits and necropolis (12th-7th/6th century BC); Macedonian-Hellenistic period – settlement (3rd-2nd century BC); Early Imperial Roman Period – villas and public buildings with mosaic floors (1st century BC – 2nd century AD); late Antique and early Christian period – Episcopal centre, three basilicas, profane buildings, necropolis (5th-6th century); St. Clement’s period and post-St. Clement’s period – monastic complex and necropolis (end of 9th/10th-15th century); Ottoman period – mosque, turbe, profane buildings (15th-19th century).

Archaeological investigations: 1942/1943; 1965/1966/1974-1976; 1999-2002; 2003-2006; 2007-2009.

Realization of projects:
I) Instauration of St. Clement’s church St. Pantelimon – phase: archaeological investigations, conservation, restoration and reconstruction (1999-2002);
II) Instauration of the complex St. Clement’s University – phase: archaeological investigations, conservation, restoration, reconstruction (2007-2011).
